Why Our Campers Are Named After Planets

Observer Ranch is a campground near the Royal Gorge in Penrose, Colorado, and if you have browsed our glamping lineup you have probably noticed the campers are not named Cabin 1 and Cabin 2. They are named after planets. Here is why that is not just a theme, it is the point of the place.

The short answer

Observer Ranch grew out of a community built around watching the sky, tracking space weather, and paying attention to the natural systems most people scroll past. Naming each camper after a planet keeps that focus front and center, literally, from the moment you pull up to your site.

Each camper, its own world

Every planet camper is set up as its own small world, distinct from its neighbors the same way the planets themselves are distinct from one another. Browse the glamping lineup to see which worlds are open for your dates.

It is not just decoration

The planet theme connects directly to why people come here in the first place. Guests who book a stay are often the same people who stay up late watching for meteors or asking which point of light overhead is Jupiter. Naming the campers after planets is a small, consistent reminder of what makes a night at Observer Ranch different from a night anywhere else.

The Little Spark connection

Little Spark, the nonprofit library and learning program based at the ranch, carries the same thread into daytime programming for kids and families. Where the planet campers make space and sky part of where you sleep, Little Spark makes curiosity and learning part of what you do while you are here, through books, hands-on classes, and community events.
